SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Republican Party has filed complaints to the Federal Election Commission against Democratic congressional candidate Soren Simonsen.

In a letter to the FEC, the party contends Simonsen hasn't complied with federal financial disclosure laws. Simonsen was late to submit an organizational statement to the FEC and did not file a July quarterly financial disclosure report.

Simonsen told the Deseret News for a story Wednesday that he has since filed the required reports and believes he's compliant with election laws. He attributed the errors to an inexperienced campaign staff.

Simonsen currently serves as chairman of the Salt Lake City Council. He is challenging two-term Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz in Utah's 3rd District.
