SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - ABC 4 News has learned the special state investigation into UHP Trooper Lisa Steed is now finished.
Steed is the former Trooper of the Year who's being investigated for questionable court testimony she gave earlier this year.
This testimony in a DUI case contradicted the testimony of her superiors and the case was eventually thrown out.
To avoid any possible conflict of interest, the Steed investigation was handled by the Utah County Attorney.
He tells ABC 4 he finished his probe late last week and he's now made a recommendation about whether to file charges.
He sending out three copies - one each to the attorney general, the UHP and Salt Lake's District Attorney.
Earlier, the Utah County Attorney told me was specifically looking at Section 76-8-502 of the Utah Code.
In other states, this type of law is sometimes referred to as a perjury statute.
Salt Lake's District Attorney will now review the material from his counterpart in Utah County.
Salt Lake's DA will have the final call on whether to file charges against Trooper Steed.
Now, because the investigation materials went out in the mail, Salt Lake's DA is not expected to get the information for a few more days.
But when he does, he will review it and a final decision on possible charges is expected sooner rather than later.
