Teenage girl injured after being struck by UPD vehicle

MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Salt Lake City Police are investigating an auto-pedestrian accident where a 13-year-old girl was struck by a Unified Police officer.
Lt. Brian Purvis with the Salt Lake City Police Department tells ABC 4 News that the accident occurred near 4500 south 3030 east in Millcreek. According to police the accident happened around 9:20 p.m. and involved an officer with Unified Police and a teenage girl.
Purvis tells ABC 4 that the girl was walking in a residential area on a poorly lit street. The girl’s father was waiting on the other side of the street for her to cross. Police say the officer did not see the girl when she crossed and struck the girl with the police vehicle.
The girl was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. Specific injuries were not immediately released but police say they do not appear to be life threatening.
Salt Lake City Police are investigating the accident.
