ELK RIDGE, Utah (AP) - Authorities say an 18-year-old volunteer firefighter from Elk Ridge has been booked into Utah County Jail on three felony arson counts related to a series of fires in central Utah.

Utah County sheriff's spokesman Spencer Cannon says Kade Johnson remains in Utah County Jail pending a bail hearing Thursday in 4th District Court.

Cannon says six fires were set in Loafer Canyon between Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills between June 25 and July 2.

The fires were small and quickly extinguished.

Johnson is a volunteer firefighter with the Elk Ridge Fire Department.

Cannon says investigators determined the fires were set by someone with firefighting knowledge but did not have information on what led to Johnson's arrest.
