Teen boy killed after being hit in crosswalk

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Police say a West High School student was killed after being struck by a truck while crossing 600 north in Salt Lake City. Wednesday morning.

The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. 

Initial information from the scene is that a 20-year-old man was attempting to turn east along 600 north when he struck the teen. 

The driver told police he had a green light. The boy also told police he had a walk light. 

The boy was transpotred to the hospital where he was later died. 

The boy was later identified as 14-year-old Edwin Cardoso, a ninth-grade student at West High School.

The Salt Lake City School District released a statement concerning Cardoso'a death, saying:

"West High School is saddened by the tragic loss of one of our students. Edwin Cardoso, a ninth-grade student, was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident this morning. Information about the accident has been shared with teachers and staff, and they have been asked to watch for any students who may be struggling as news of the accident spreads. School counselors are ready and available for any students who may need help."
