LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police are asking the public for help in locating an individual who assaulted a 10-year-old girl walking home from school on Thursday.

Police say the girl was walking through the park next to Adam's Elementary school when a male approached her from behind and grabbed her by the upper arms. She then escaped, but was kicked and hit in the process.

After several hours, the victim reported the incident. The victim's mother then took her to Davis Hospital where medical personnel confirmed very minor bruises on her upper arms.

The suspect is described as a high school aged male, thin build, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing a neon yellow, long-sleeved shirt, light blue denim jeans, a dark ski mask and dark sunglasses.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Layton City police department at 801-497-8300.
