MILLVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A small spark from a single gunshot in Millville Canyon gave birth to an out-of-control wildfire east of Millville and south of Logan.
The fire Started Sunday around 4:00 p.m. and quickly grew to 120 acres roughly four hours after it started.
The fire was zero-percent contained as of midnight Sunday.
50 firefighters, two helicopters and at least one tanker were fighting the blaze Sunday.
Cache Valley is now officially part of Utah’s rampant wildfire season. So far, ten major wildfires have started this year.
“I was just talking yesterday. I’m like, 'It’s weird there is none in Cache Valley,' then after church we looked up there and saw a bunch of smoke,” said Jordan Gee, who was watching the fire from a safe distance.
As of Sunday evening the Cache Valley Fire District did not expect the fire to harm homes, although it was slowly making its way down the mountain and toward homes, because of a change in wind direction.
About a half mile separated the fire from the homes as of 10:00 p.m. Sunday.
The person or group responsible for starting this fire is facing charges. They may be responsible to pay the cost to stop the fire.
