SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Terry Black never spoke a word during his brief court appearance.

Black is a suspect in the rape and murder of 6-year old Sierra Newbold. He made his first court appearance since being charged.

In court, Black barely whispered whenever his attorney talked with him.
“Who wouldn't be shaken by all this,” his attorney Ari Chino told ABC 4 News.

Black allegedly went on a crime spree during the last week of June.
Three days after Newbold was murdered, Black allegedly robbed a bank in West Jordan.

Black is also accused of stealing an SUV which was found at the bank.

All this has taken its toll on his wife and two children, according to Black's attorney. They've gone into hiding and say very little.

“Just shock at what he's being accused of,” Chino says.

In court, the judge appointed a public defender for his murder case and transferred the case to West Jordan.

He is scheduled to be back in court July 31st.
