COALVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Summit County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an open bonfire on Echo Dam Road near Echo Reservoir late Friday night. Upon arriving, officials report they found several minors and an adult consuming alcoholic beverages while stoking an open bonfire.

The open fire was in direct violation of the new Summit County Fire Ban Ordinance 773.

According to Summit County, three adults were arrested on multiple drug, alcohol, and contributing to the delinquency of minor charges. Two juveniles were referred on charges as well. The adult who claimed responsibility for the fire, Zachery Line, was also booked on the class B misdemeanor charge of violating Ordinance 773 - prohibiting open fires.

Summit County Sheriff David A. Edmunds stated, "We are on track for a record dry season in Summit County and the State of Utah. In light of the active fires in the region and the extreme fire danger - as Sheriff - I am taking a zero tolerance stance on the open fire and fireworks issue. The Summit County Sheriff's Office will actively protect our mountain community from the threat that these careless individuals pose to our homes, economy, and environment by recklessly violating the ban. Thus, we will actively seek out, arrest, and book violators into jail for violation of the fire ordinance."

The punishments should be fair to all that commits a crime. In this case the crimes or potential crimes these people did need to be taught to keep them and others from making such potently hazardous results. I would like to see all party goers have to train as local volunteer fire fighters. Having to do a job you might have caused may trigger common sense into these kids!

Why in the world are we asking this question!! What part of us living in a desert don't we understand! Setting an example of this situation will make the general public too terrified to even try it. It's nice to be nice but, if it's your lives/homes nice stops!!!! Nip the problem in the bud & get the word out this conduct won't be tolerated!!!!
