SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah state auditors have told police in the gateway town outside Zion National Park to stop taking cash fines from foreign tourists stopped for traffic violations.

An auditors' report Monday says some of the citations issued by Springdale police are missing from police and court records.

State auditor Auston G. Johnson tells The Associated Press he can't prove that Springdale police pocketed any traffic fines and doesn't know how much money is missing but will file his report to Washington County attorneys for possible prosecution.

Springdale Police Chief Kurt Wright says he ordered his officers to stop the practice. Wright says he believed police had authority to collect on-the-spot fines that can be difficult to collect from tourists after they return to their homelands.

Hmmmm.I wonder,do these "police officers" speak Spanish? This sure sounds like Mexico to me.These ass wipes need to be taken out to the woodshed and given a set of "Scotch hobbles."(To those that are not cognizant of what those are,you cut a slit in the nut sack of an offender and sew his foot into the slit.)I am ex-LEO,retired after 28 years. At best, when they are convicted of corruption, they should be put into general population with a "rat-jacket" pinned on them.Things will take care of themselves after that. There is no room in this society for a dirty cop.Their families should also forfeit all fruits of the criminal act.
