SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Gov. Gary Herbert has called a special session of the Legislature to deal with a statewide shortage of liquor licenses and a $25 million education department accounting error.
The session is set to begin at 3 p.m.
The governor says a lack of liquor licenses available to restaurants has been hindering business growth in Utah, and something needs to be done.
The session will also address a mistake announced in April that had education department officials underestimating the number of students who would be enrolled next year. That skewed calculations about how much per-pupil student funding the department needed and created a $25 million gap in a $3 billion budget.
Two officials resigned amid the error.
Lawmakers also will address several smaller issues during the session.
