SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Marci Law's third grade class at Jordan Hills Elementary is very patriotic, but Wednesday was extra special. They were able to Skype with a soldier in Afghanistan.
Law's brother has been serving in Afghanistan since January. When the school year started, she had an idea. Law said, "It would be so fun to send them thank you notes."
Thank you cards from each student, with personalized messages from eight-year-olds.
Bryson Brady wrote, "I'm glad you are serving for us and I said I liked his mustache."
Kambree McMurrin wrote, "Thank you for being brave and help save our country."
Wednesday those letters turned into a real conversation with Sgt. Smethurst. Each student had the chance to ask questions and get answers right away from a soldier they had grown to love.
Sgt. Smethurst's wife Becky was there too. She loved it.
Becky Smethurst said, "Sometimes they don't feel appreciated over there. They know their families love them, but when you get class support and community support, it is wonderful. He love kids anyway, to have them be aware of what is going on is important."
