SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will join a Washington, D.C.-based law firm after he leaves public office Jan. 7.

Shurtleff and the law firm Troutman Sanders made the announcement in a news release issued Friday.

The 600-lawyer-strong firm says Shurtleff will complement its Washington-based regulatory compliance and government litigation practice.

Shurtleff will join a team that includes former chief lawyers for other states and the federal government.

Shurtleff was first elected in 2000. He decided not to run for re-election this November and is being succeeded by his chief deputy, John Swallow.
