SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - It’s an advertisement hidden in a cartoon. It’s aimed at young girls showing them what they need to do to stay trim and fit, but towards the end, you can see the cartoonish young girl running in her Sketcher Shape Ups away from a hotdog and various other food, instilling in her what she must do to stay thin and attractive. This is a message very disturbing to local child psychologist, Dr. Douglas Goldsmith.
He says, “We are rewinding the clock. What women had to offer in the past was how they looked, but then women began pushing so hard to be treated equally. This has eroded all of their hard work, if you we begin to say to children you need to be sexy.”
It’s the very message one can only assume is being projected from a company looking to expand their customer base to the very young.
