SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Salt Lake City Police are investigating what they're calling a homicide.

Police say 27-year-old Emett Schad was found lying in between the TRAX lines just north of EnergySolutions Arena at 350 West South Temple just after midnight Thursday.

Police aren't yet saying how he died.

"There were circumstances that lead us to believe this was a homicide," said Sgt. Shawn Josephson.

Police said Schad was still alive when he was found but

died at the hospital.

"He was just a really nice guy," said his mother Eleanor Iron Lightning.

She got the word of his death early this morning.

"Anything he had, he shared," his mother said.

His mother said her son despite having a job, lived amongst the homeless.

"Those were his second family," she said.

Police aren't saying anything about how he died and have few leads.
"We're still trying to determine what happened here and what we can find out to determine who we are looking for," said Sgt. Josephson.

But Schad's mother suspects it was someone amongst the homeless that took her son's life.

"Yeah, it has come up," she said. "He says he was having some problems."

She said whatever money Schad earned he shared with his family and homeless friends.

"He may not have been prosperous financially or anything but he had his own way of being prosperous," Iron Lightning said.
