OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – The car stolen for a quadriplegic woman is returned by police. Neighbors stopped by on Christmas night to congratulate Meg Johnson on getting her custom built car back.
To her, the car equals freedom. It’s mobility for a girl who’s bound to a wheelchair after suffering a devastating hiking accident six years ago.
“It’s awesome. In this car, I can do everything myself.”
This is the first ever outfitted Subaru Baha. It makes it possible for Meg to easily transport herself and her wheelchair anywhere she needs to go, but yesterday, while her husband was warming the car up in their Ogden driveway, thieves jumped in and took off. Cops later caught them while they were driving it around town.
“I’m surprised they didn’t find it sooner. There is a crane in the back for a wheelchair.”
Receiving the call letting her know they found her car made Meg’s Christmas, even though the kleptos got rid of the Christmas presents she did have in the back seat.
“They threw the Christmas presents away.”
Ogden police found a group of people surrounding the car late Christmas Eve night. Two ran away, but police detained another for questioning. They have not made an arrest in this case.
