PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Provo Police Department announced that one of their officers was fired over an incident in which he dropped his pants in front of students and faculty at Provo High School.
Provo officials say Officer Cody Harris was fired for misconduct after he flaunted a Speedo-style swimsuit at a Provo High School function attended by female students and staff.
Provo Police say Harris was a resource officer at PHS and attended a birthday party on May 2 for an administrative assistant.
The department said Harris wore a green Speedo-style bathing suit and a green hooded sweatshirt as part of a costume he wore under his uniform.
Police say at one point, Harris removed his pants to show off the suit and made inappropriate gestures and comments near a group of girls at the school.
In a news release, Provo officials said that Harris volunteered to wear his own speedo/swimsuit over leggings to enhance a costume planned to wear. Upon the day of the party, police say Harris claimed he was not able to fit into the provided "leggings" that would have covered his legs, and made the "conscious and independent" decision to wear only a speedo/swimsuit and a green hoodie.
Police said that Harris dropped his pants on at least four separate occasions to reveal the swimsuit, while making inappropriate gestures and comments.
The news release stated that students and the school security system recorded some of the event, and that during the course of his behavior, he left several individuals so uncomfortable that they left.
Police say Harris' position was terminated because he violated several departmental policies, including those that cover sexual harassment and conduct toward the public.
