WEST VALLEY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – It’s been nearly a month and a half since 21-year-old Danielle Willard was shot and killed by West Valley City Police with no explanation as to why.
Sunday evening a large group of protestors stood out on the street at a busy intersection in West Valley demanding answers; among those carrying signs was Danielle’s father.
Fred Willard said, "We haven't heard anything. No records have been released and lot of question marks now."
So many questions, in fact, that people that didn't even know Danielle are demanding answers.
Summer Smith said, "We deserve to know what happened. Her parents deserve to know what happened. Her family deserves it."
Grant Bangerter said, "Danielle was shot and they're not giving us any answers."
The West Valley City Police Department has been tight-lipped about the November 2nd shooting saying only the time it happened, the fact that Willard was dead and that an officer was hurt in the incident.
"Why haven't they released the information,” asked Smith. “That's the problem."
Danielle’s father says his daughter had been struggling with a drug addiction and getting clean was the reason she moved back to Utah.
"She was recovering and she was clean,” said Willard.
She was just 21-years-old and trying to get her life back on track. The night she died, her parents say she had no weapon.
"I would like to see the police officer who shot Danielle be put on trial and be stripped of his job,” said Smith. “He should be put on trial for murder."
