OREM, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A pizza delivery man in Orem got a little more than he bargained for when he went to do his job Halloween night – he got punched in the face and robbed.
The street lamp was out, the porch light was off and it was dark Wednesday night near the area of 500 North 100 East. When pizza delivery driver Jordan Kenison showed up he had a feeling something wasn't right. Two teenage looking boys were waiting outside for him.
“They were standing here in the driveway,” said Kenison. “When I went to hand the one kid the pizza he asked if I had some change, so I pulled out my moneybag and when I did that the one kid was standing right here punched me in the face. The kid that I was talking to took the money and they ran in opposite directions."
Kenison has only been working at Five Buck Pizza for a month. He wasn't trained on how to deal with robbers, so he did what he thought was right.
"It took me a little bit to realize what was going on. He took my money, but I didn't want him to keep that, so I ran after him."
Police say that's the wrong move, the robbers could have been armed, but in this case it worked.
Sgt. Craig Martinez with the Orem Police Department said, "He chased after them, got close enough to them that they got scared. They dropped the pizza and the money bag and took off running."
Police later learned the suspects didn't even live at the address and they used a bogus phone number to order the pizza. Because it was so dark Kenison didn't get a good description.
