DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 News) - They lit candles, gave prayers and shared stories of their beloved Anne. The 15-year-old was murdered one year ago. She was severely beaten before being dumped in the Jordan River.
At Sunday night's candlelight vigil Anne Kasprzak's younger brother said, "She's always been a great big sister and I wish she was here right now."
"She was a beautiful spirit," said Anne's father Dennis Kasprzak. "She was so kind to small children and she had somewhat of a troubled upbringing. She didn't get the best start in life and she was resilient."
A year after her death her family is still searching for answers.
"While I don't think you ever get over the loss of a child, it should get easier and that's really hard to do when you never get to close the book," explained Anne's mother Veronica Kasprzak.
Police had long believed 31-year-old Daniel Ferry played a role in Anne's death, but just last week they announced he was no longer a person of interest.
"We are really asking for more information from anybody which is why, as a family, we've offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the person responsible," said Veronica Kasprzak.
They've also started a Facebook group called, "No More Secrets, Be the Change."
Dennis Kasprzak said, "Secrets can only be secrets for so long and eventually they come out."
Anne's family believes the truth is out there, they just need someone courageous enough to come forward.
"People don't need to be afraid to come forward anymore," said Kasprzak. "I know there was a lot of scary information about the suspect and people were afraid to talk. Now that the suspect has been cleared we hope there's been some chatter. Someone knows what happened out here, we're hoping they can give us some light on that."
