SMITHFIELD, Utah (AP) - Investigators have released the name of a 32-year-old Smithfield man who died after crashing his all-terrain vehicle near the Bear River.
Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki tells the Herald Journal that Jeremy Jay Hillyard was attempting to jump a 20- to 30-foot embankment while riding with friends Tuesday night northwest of Smithfield. Hillyard was taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital with severe head trauma and was later declared dead.
Stucki says the accident occurred on private property but didn't know if the group had permission to be riding in the area.
Stucki says alcohol was at the scene but couldn't say if that was a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing.
