SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – You've heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, right? But what about Giving Tuesday? It's a new day of the season being proposed to balance out the massive spending sprees this time of year.

“Remember that thing called the giving season?" states an ad from New York’s 92nd Street Y.

The people behind this ad are trying to bring back the spirit of Christmas.

When you see swarms of shoppers rush stores for huge savings, you might understand why non-profit group New York’s 92nd Street Y thinks we've lost sight on the holiday season. 92nd Street Y believes Christmas gets lost in the hustle of fanatic shoppers on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. So to bring the spirit back, 92nd Street Y is proposing a new day to designed to give called “Giving Tuesday.”

"I think it's a good idea," said Chris Cassity, resident.

"I think that we should give back, I think there should be a day for it," Shauna Trimm, resident.

The concept is to use the day to volunteer, donate food, clothing or other items to those who need it most.

“Is that something you’d participate in?” ABC 4 asked.

“I think I’d look into it a little bit more yah,” said Cassity.

“I think giving is an everyday of the week kind of thing,” said Debra Platt, resident.

Whether “Giving Tuesday” actually catches on or not one will have to wait and see but with all the focus on getting right now, some believe we could use a little more giving.
