SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The mega-sporting goods store known as Scheels is opening in Sandy on September 29th.

The store features a ferris wheel and a tropical aquarium that spans through two glass arches for shoppers to walk underneath.

They are designed to attract Utah shoppers to the state's newest sporting goods store.

Walk farther inside and it's clear that store designers want customers to do more than shop. They want customers to have an experience.

Interactive games like this shooting range are here to lure customers in and keep them coming back for more.

With 106 other sporting goods-like stores in Salt Lake and Utah Counties the competition could be fierce for the sporting good dollar.

"My own opinion is that this market is big enough for everybody and how do we draw the attention to us? Part of it is the entertainment," said Karen Jones.

Scheels is preparing an army of workers to sell. The sporting good chain transferred 50 employees in from one of the company's other 22 stores.

The store also hired more than 400 locals and is preparing to fill another 50 positions.
