SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A recent poll shows Republican Mayor Mia Love pulling ahead of Democrat incumbent Jim Matheson in the race for Utah's fourth congressional district.
The poll, commissioned by the Salt Lake Tribune gave Love a 12-point lead over Matheson in Utah's 4th District, with a margin of error of four points. The poll shows Love is leading 52 to 40 percent.
The poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research surveyed 625 likely voters of District 4 earlier last week
With just 48 hours to go until the polls close, both Love and Matheson are using every minute to talk to voters.
"It's fun to work on a campaign where everything matters. If it's not going to be a tight race, then a lot of the campaign work may not really have an effect on the outcome. In this case, everything we do matters," said Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah.
Matheson spent Saturday with supporters organizing one last effort to knock on doors and persuade voters.
Meanwhile, Mia Love also had a busy Saturday, meeting one on one with her constituents with a precinct walk and a honk and wave.
Like Matheson, Love says she won't rest until all the ballots are counted. "I'm actually walking in neighborhoods, knocking on doors, waving, doing everything I can to talk to people and to give them an opportunity to ask questions," said Mayor Mia Love.
Campaign advertising by the candidates and outside groups topped $10 million earlier last week.
If elected, Love would become just the 27th black Republican to serve in the U.S. House, and the first black Republican woman.
Matheson has served six terms since he was elected to office in 2000.
