SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – The nephew of a murdered man has been charged with his death.
In fact, prosecutors have charged Alex Vasquez with two homicides for an August shooting in Sandy.
“I was laying down holding him trying to stop the blood and there was a guy back there, the dead one," recalls Herman Vasquez.
Vasquez’s son Simon was gunned down inside the garage at their Sandy home.
Prosecutors called it a firefight inside his garage and when the smoke cleared, three were shot.
“I was holding Simon like this because he was just gushing blood out you know,” says Vasquez.
His son was rushed to the hospital where he died two days later.
Another man, Paul Giovale was dead in the garage.
24-year old Alex Vasquez, Simon's nephew is now charged with a double murder.
Prosecutors claim Alex Vasquez shut the garage door and forced everyone to stay inside.
“They tried to leave,” says Sim Gill, Salt Lake’s district attorney. “He demanded they stay there and it’s alleged that he shot at a person in there and then a firefight broke out.”
Six months later there are still traces of the firefight inside Herman Vasquez’ garage.
“I don’t know why (it happened),” says Vasquez.
