Mother arrested after children found in dumpster

PROVO, UT (ABC 4 News) - A concerned citizen found two children in a dumpster this morning, September 25th, at the Boulders Apartment complex in Provo. The complex is located at 750 South 650 West.

According to Provo police, after officers arrived they were unsuccessful at contacting the mother.

Officers knocked on the door of her apartment and called her cell phone multiple times.

Neighbors informed the police that the mother, 21 year old Stephania Chavez, had two other children in the apartment.

As officers said they continued to make contact they could here cries coming from inside the apartment.

They obtained a key from apartment management to enter and check on the children.

Police said once inside they found the apartment littered with dirty diapers and empty beer cans.

The mother was booked into the Utah County Jail for child abuse and neglect.

The report issued by Provo Police did not contains details as to how or why the children were in the dumpster.

Child services has taken custody of all four children. Nothing has been reported on their condition.

Don't be too judgemental. We don't know all of the facts. This is a women with 4 very young children that would have had a hell of a time applying for food stamps not considering going to the store to redeem them. Maybe she is not the problem.
