What the Church seems to be saying is that the prophecies in the Book of Mormon concerning the time of the Gentiles is being fulfilled. The Book of Mormon said that the Gentiles would prosper and become a great nation, but that the land was reserved for a righteous people. When the Gentiles reject Christ, and as they become ripe in wickedness the land, it will be given to another. It would seem that the natives tribes of Central America may have claim to being the descendents of Lehi, according to the leading geographic theories among LDS scholars. They certainly were scattered by the Spanish, as were the tribes in North America by the Europeans who settled there. Mexico and especially the United States qualify as the great nations of the Gentiles. It is apparent to even the most casual observer that these Gentiles have (hereto) rejected the fullness of the Gospel, rejecting even the light that they had, that their adulteries, bloodshed and dishonesty have become common place and lead to greater sin and depravity. I am reminded of Mormon’s lament: “ O my beloved son, how can a people like this, that are without civilization (And only a few years have passed away, and they were a civil and a delightsome people)… O my son, how can a people like this, whose delight is in so much abomination … How can we expect that God will stay his hand in judgment against us? … They are without order and without mercy. Behold, I am but a man, and I have but the strength of a man, and I cannot any longer enforce my commands.” And this latest announcement on immigration is consistent with this, that the land be given to another people, that the fall of this nation be a wonder. For how quickly has our beloved country sunk, and how quick could be the final plunge! How quickly have we gone from a nation that could aspire to the Moon to 3rd world status! The Constitution will conceivably be preserved in a remnant of the old USA, even as the old USA crumbles, and Mexico cann

We All should listen to the teachings of Brotherly love as demonstrated by the Christ, and in this time and day you find yourself in the minority it may just be a sign that the majority have gone Mad with lust of money, gold, and other selfinh ideals. Be strong and Hold/Receive the Peace in your hearts that can only fuel the Holy Spirit. True children of God are not going to React on grounds of Physical/Monetary gain, only those that still don't see the Lord. Treat each other as brothers and You cannot serve to masters, It is the Lord or the man. Choose peacfully.

I suggest that everyone calm down a little and stop acting like children regarding this issue. Obviously, there will be division on this one bill. The thing to consider is: How does the prophet feel about this? If my prophet says do it or don't do, he speaks for the Lord. We best be doing what the Lord wants us to do. If you have doubts, we all have our agency to go directly to the Lord in prayer to confirm that a Church Press Release is or is not a direction from our Prophet or in truth the Lord. There are going to be a lot of things that we are going to be commanded to do that we do not understand. Let us all get in the habit of understanding that the Lord is in command. If... we are following the prophet and not swallowed up in worldly things, this nation will not fail, and righteousness will prevail. Get back in line and remember the Lord does help us in our eternal progression with a series of commands and tests. There is a lot of truth coming out of our Sundeay School and P.H. lessons that is very informative to those of us who can see, hear and understand. Pray before you speak.

Aren't illegal immigrants taxpayers? I heard they are. If so, should government entitlements be available only to those paying for them? Hmmm. Who would that cut out?

To Unhappy in Brigham City and a lot of other anti-immigrant people: WHY ON EARTH do you presume that anyone who works as a laborer is an illegal alien??? More often than not you are WRONG. It is just ridiculous racial stereotyping that only fuels the controversy over this issue.

I am disappointed in the LDS church. The church tells us to abide by the law of the land. And then in the next moment they are going against the law of the land, because it will take illegal families away from each other. But what about the soldiers that are fighting for our freedoms are they able to be with their families? Many don't come back alive what about their children, wivies and fathers? It feels like we are living in a time where right is wrong and wrong is right. Remember it is a CRIME to be in the United States ILLEGALLY and we can not serve two masters.

It is amusing how ignorance comes out of the closet every time there is a story on immigration. Conjecture, false clams, name calling, assumptions most with no real truth to back them up. No wonder the tea party is loosing standing with the American public; it’s just another hate group. It is amazing to know that there are people who can tell if a person is illegal, by driving by, ICE could use that ability. While I do not agree with the LDS faith on many issues “Compassion for others” I do.

I live in Brigham City, Utah...I am LDS...I pass by the Temple being built, and the laborers are, for the most part, illegal immigrants. The job market is extremely low here...and we have illegals building our LDS Temple. The Law of the Land stopped polygamy. Do we pick and choose which Law of the Land we obey?

Let me say thank you for all who wrote down their thoughts regarding this immigration issue. I enjoy your prospectives. Below I have given two quotes from this morning Trib and a statement give to us by channel 4. If our State Legislators new in advance that the Feds wouldn't buy into HB-116 why then did they spend so much time on this issue when most likely nothing will become of it? Why would the LDS Church contradict themselves by saying "Obey and sustain the laws of the land" When they don't follow their own ideals. For me I'm tired of being a welfare state paying for most of the Illegal Immigrants with education, health care and with food stamps. One last point I am a member of the church is good standing and I don't agree with everything the church say's. So I'm a bum what can I say. 1st) Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, has said there’s no way the federal government will grant such a waiver, since immigration policy is clearly in the federal domain and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, has also denounced the bill. 2nd) The Church reiterated its support of the Utah Compact as supporting the basic ideals of the commandment to “love thy neighbor,” the importance of keeping families intact and the federal government’s obligation to secure its borders.

The Mormon church as NO place in politics. I could care less what their feelings are on anything. It must be a slow news day when what the church has to say is more relevant than tragedies happening.
