SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) --The bells on the Capital ran Friday morning to honor the 26 innocent lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary.
It included a ring for a little Utah girl who was among those killed one week ago.
A dreary, cold morning in Newtown, Connecticut didn't keep people away from remembering the 26 innocent lives lost last Friday.
Connecticut's governor called for a moment of silence at 9:30 Friday morning, the very moment Adam Lanza stormed the halls of Sandy Hook and opened fire.
Governor Dannel Malloy also encouraged states across the country to ring bells at their government building.
Governor Gary Herbert made sure that happened at the Utah state capitol, they rang 26 times, one for each victim.
At 9:30 Friday morning, Utahns stopped for a minute of silence. Then the capitol rang it's bell 26 times and at 9:32 finished it's tribute with bells ringing angels we have heard on high, beautifully sung by the Ben Lomond High School choir, who lost two of their own this year.
Little Emilie Parker, from Ogden, died in that shooting, that was her favorite song.
“It kind of hits a little close to home because we had two students pass away in our school that we knew really well,” says Madeline Baker, student at Ben Lomond High School.
Utahns filled the capitol to pay their respects to little emilie and to embrace all of those loved ones left behind to grieve this tragic loss.
