SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - What were you doing at the age of 24? Well, New York native Dotan Negrin is taking his piano and dog and hitting the streets of America.
Negrin isn't your typical street performer. Because every few days he's on a different street, in a different city all around the country.
"I love to perform and entertain," Negrin said. "I love to meet people and travel."
So Dotan combined all those things and took to the road with his piano and dog, Brando. He started in New York and worked his way west. But when he got to Seattle, money was thin and making it back home to the Big Apple was going to be tough.
"I decided to take a challenge of trying to get from Seattle to New York starting with three dollars," Negrin added.
Now his only income are the donations he gets from the people he meets. And the message Dotan is trying to deliver is simple...
"Go after creating your own road instead of going down the same road everyone is taking."
Today marks the 123rd day of his adventure with Salt Lake being the 30th city he's played in. Oh, and there's more stops ahead.
"I think the next city I'm going to is Park City," said Negrin. "Then through Colorado to Boulder, to Denver and then to Chicago. Wouldn't it be cool if I could do 50 cities?"
But in the end...
"I would love to inspire people to pursue something like this, not necessarily exactly like this but to create their own path in life."
And that's not a bad idea.
Dotan plans to play at the Farmers Market this Saturday at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City. To find out where and when he's playing in the future, or to read more on his journey through America, check out the following links:
