MIDVALE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Utah’s missing person cases were remembered in Midvale Saturday.
Stephanie Cook, whose mom has been missing for 18 years, organized the potluck and balloon release. “Is emotional, you feel like you're the only person in the world, but you have a group full of people who feel the exact same way you feel, it's nice,” she said.
Nila De Tabbee's 17 year-old daughter ran away in August and hasn't been seen since. She’s pleading for her to come home. “We just love her and miss her and we really want her to be apart of our lives and no matter what has happened there's nothing we can't fix,” she said.
Tears and missing posters are all families of the missing have to cling on to-- and of course hope. That's something Kiirsi Hellewell has fought to hold onto for three years. Dec. 6th will be the anniversary of the last time her friend Susan Powell was seen alive.
“We're almost three years into this and this is a date that I hoped would never come,” she said. “But I am still hopeful and still have a lot of faith in the police. They tell me they are working very hard and they are determined to solve this case and so I just got to keep hoping.”
The primary suspect in the Powell case is Susan's husband Josh who killed himself and their two boys in a house explosion earlier this year. But earlier this week Hellewell told ABC 4’s Kim Johnson she's convinced Josh's dad may know where her missing friend is.
“I think Steve Powell definitely knew what happened to Susan and probably helped with it,” she said on Wednesday.
For now there are still no answers for any of these families in this special club, so they'll just continue to look to the sky and hope.
“Just trying to do everything we can to keep awareness out there,” said Hellewell.
Steve Powell is currently in jail on a voyeurism charge, but he will be released in May.
