SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah congressional candidate Mia Love is stepping up her attacks as a new poll shows her pulling ahead of incumbent Jim Matheson.

Utah's only Democrat in Congress is running in a remapped district that Matheson says favors the Republican mayor in Saratoga Springs.

Matheson says he's not surprised the race is tightening.

Love and the six-term congressman held their final debate Tuesday on the Doug Wright show on KSL radio.

A Deseret News/KSL poll shows Love with a six-point lead over Matheson, or 49 percent to 43 percent

Eight percent were undecided, keeping the race tight.

Dan Jones & Associates surveyed 414 residents of the 4th District Sept. 26-29. The poll has a margin of error of five percentage points.

Matheson is so much more competent and yes he votes with the republicans on most major issues. He really is more like a liberal republican than a democrat.

Matheson has my vote. We don't need a newbie in congress.
