PLEASANT GROVE Utah (ABC 4 News) - A mother made a shocking discovery after receiving a strange phone call.
Anni Barker found her son wrapped in a blanket barely alive.
"I thought he was dead, I thought he was dead," Barker told ABC 4 News.
Sunday night Barker and her friend rushed to his apartment after getting a strange call from his roommate.
"She says my son was hurt and that I needed to go get him," Barker says. "When I got there the door was locked but we were able to go inside."
When Barker and her friend arrived the room mate wasn't around. They went inside and found the apartment torn apart and there was no trace of her son.
"But then I saw this cat over by the table and that got my attention," she says.
When she looked closer she saw a blanket that was covering something.
"He was under the blanket, it was my son," Barker says. "He had been rolled up and left for dead."
Her friend Terrie Byars helped her unwrap the body.
"His face was black and blue and his head was swollen," Byars says. "Blood was coming out of his ears."
They called 911 and he was rushed to the hospital where he remains unconscious and in critical condition.
Barker says the roommate checked herself into a mental hospital but ABC 4 news could not confirm that.
As for the motive, Barker has no idea. And calls to Pleasant Grove police were not returned.
"I want whoever did this to be brought to justice," Barker says. "I'm sick to my stomach and can't imagine anyone doing something like this."
