LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police say three young men were caught stealing from a Layton costume business early Monday morning.
According to Layton police, officers responded to a report of suspicious activity near 45 East Gentile Street.
Police say the person who made the report said they heard banging on something behind the business.
When officers arrived on scene, police say three young men were seen fleeing on foot.
Police say 18-year-old Michael Corbett and an unnamed 17-year-old boy were quickly apprehended.
After questioning, police say investigators learned that the two young men and another 17-year-old male broke into Costume Castle business, located at 80 West Gentile.
Police say the young men broke a window at the back of the business, got inside, stole masks, swords, and jewelry from inside the store.
Police say the suspects also stole the cash register and used baseball bats to break it open, but that there was less than $10 inside.
According to police, the merchandise and money from the cash register were returned to the Costume Castle owner.
Police say Corbett was arrested for burglary (3rd degree felony) and theft (class B misdemeanor) and was booked into Davis County Jail.
Police say officers later located the second juvenile at a residence in Layton and that both boys were arrested on similar charges and booked into Farmington Bay Youth Center.
