SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - State Representative John Dougal is considering legislation that would eliminate vehicle safety inspections and limit emissions testing in Utah, according to a report from The Sutherland Institute.

According to the report, Dougal claims most vehicles pass inspection already, and that the regulation is unnecessary.

Dougal said that some emissions testing on newer vehicles could be eliminated as well, according to the Sutherland report.

Dougal is the same representative who introduced the controversial House Bill 477 during the 2011 legislative session. The bill would have restricted public and media access to some communications between lawmakers.

The Sutherland Institute is a conservative think tank located in Salt Lake City.

Hmmmm yet California (36.9 million) and Georgia (9.8 million) don't have higher accident rates and they don't require a safety inspection. I don't think the safety inspection will help the 2.7 million people in Utah if it doesn't help the 10 to 20 million in the bigger states. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_inspection_in_the_United_States

Silly idea of not having a vehicle saftey program. John Dougal say's that most vehicles pass inspection anyway. Well sure thay do because there inspected every year. Your not worried about those vehicles that pass the Stat's inspections it's those cars that can not or do not pass inspections. Get those vehicles that can not pass inspections "off the road" Think about it John.
