SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Former presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, Jr. is being named chairman of the Salt Lake City cancer foundation that bears his family's name.

The Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah announced the appointment Thursday. He replaces his father, Jon Huntsman, Sr., who has served as chairman for 17 years.

Huntsman, Jr. has previously served as first president and CEO of the cancer foundation, after the research and treatment institute was established in 1995. He also has held posts as Utah's governor and U.S. Ambassador to Singapore and China.

The elder Huntsman says his son will significantly further the work of the foundation, which supports 1,300 faculty and staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
