SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Miller family and many in the community are mourning the tragic death of Sherry Black, Greg Miller’s mother-in-law. Police are keeping tight lipped as they continue their investigation. Players and fans at Wednesday’s game held a moment of silence for Black.
Black was found stabbed to death inside her South Salt Lake business Tuesday afternoon. She was discovered by her husband. Police say they do not have any suspects and they’re not releasing details on a possible motive. South Salt Lake PIO Gary Keller says, “We’re very careful about what is put out there. We do not want to compromise the investigation at this point nor the prosecution when it comes to that point.”
Greg Miller, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group, said in a statement, “The outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community truly is making a difference for us. We appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and kindness.”
At Wednesday night’s Jazz game there was a moment of silence in Black’s honor.
Since the murder, nearby neighbors say they’re worried about their own safety. Leah Whitehead says, “The police don’t know anything, there’s no clues of when it happened or who did it or if the guy is still out.”
Police are urging everyone to be cautious and vigilant. Keller says, “Do not let strangers in your house. If they need to use phone or try and use a guise to gain entry don’t let them in. Say ‘I’ll help you I’m going to call police right now.’”
Police are asking for the public’s help in this case. They ask anyone who was driving on 700 East near 3466 South on Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and may have seen anything out of the ordinary or suspicious to please call them at (801) 840-4000.
