SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Department of the Interior officials say their agency's parks and other projects supported more than 83,000 Utah jobs last fiscal year.
The federal agency says Monday that the 21 million visitors to national parks, wildlife refuges and other federal lands in Utah supported about 21,000 jobs, while energy and mineral development supported close to 55,000 jobs.
The department says Moab alone supported almost 1,700 jobs. That area sees more than 1 million visitors a year.
Interior department officials say their agency's projects and sites made a nearly $13.1 billion impact on the Utah economy.
Nationwide, they say the economic impact is $385 billion.
The Interior department's responsibilities include managing public lands and natural resources and working with Native American tribes.
