Hiker finds body in Rock Canyon near Provo

PROVO, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a hiker stumbled upon a body in Rock Canyon near Provo.

The Daily Herald reports a Utah Valley student hiking near the canyon trailhead about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday stumbled upon the remains.

Provo Police Department Lt. Mathew Siufanua says investigators are at the scene but have yet to identify the body or determine what may have happened.

Siufanua also did not know if the body was that of a man or woman. He says the victim did not appear to have any hiking or climbing gear and police don't know how long the body was in the canyon before being found.
