SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Incumbent republican Senator Orrin Hatch easily won reelection over democratic challenger Scott Howell on Tuesday.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Hatch won by a 65 to 30 percent margin over Howell.

Reelection means the 78-year-old Hatch will serve a 7th term in the U.S. Senate, making him the 3rd most senior member of the group. He will be the most senior republican in the Senate.

Hatch says it will be his last term.

Hatch narrowly avoided having to in the 2012 Utah primary, when he beat out fellow GOP challenger Dan Liljenquist.
