WEST JORDAN (ABC 4 News) – Sexy, slinky, adulterous-- they're all designs for Halloween costumes. But some Utah parents say those outfits shouldn't be in stores where little kids can see them.
"It should be something for only adults to look at,” said Kiyono Streich, a mom of an 11 year-old. Streich said she’s frustrated she can’t take her daughter costume shopping without it being an X-rated experience. "I feel that we should guard our children more, I don't think they should be exposed to that,” she said.
ABC 4 took hidden cameras into the Halloween City in West Jordan and found the adult costumes and the child costumes are on clear opposite ends of the store. But Streich says it's not enough protection.
"Your kid can wander in a section and lots of parents let their kids wander and they can see those things and I don't think it's appropriate," she said.
Other parents tell ABC 4 they agree and wish the stores took more steps to keep the kids out of the adult sections.
"Everything is just out there in the open-- adult costumes kid costumes it doesn't matter,” said Mindy Allen, a mom and Halloween City customer. “I think they could have a blocked-off section for adults that wasn't so easy for kids that just go running all around."
Halloween City did not return ABC 4’s request for comment.
