SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Governor Gary Herbert is riding to the rescue.
Herbert was one of six governors to meet with President Obama Tuesday.
They did so to help America avoid going off the so-called impending fiscal cliff.
As Governor Herbert told Washington D.C. reporters,
"We've got to come together and get this done."
Later, in a phone interview with ABC 4, Herbert said he told the president,
"There's going to be a dramatic impact if you don't do something. We as governors said doing nothing, we believe, is not an option."
The fiscal cliff refers to upcoming budget cuts and tax hikes, scheduled to take place next year - unless Congress and the president take action.
And, yes, according to Utah’s governor, entitlements like Medicaid were talked about with the president,
"We're asking for more flexibility. It's been a common theme we've talked about with the president, with Congress. Give us more and take away some of the strings and we can do more with less and help you balance the budget and keep the economy afloat.”
