SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A change is coming to Google and it could affect your personal information.

Most of us know Google.

It operates Gmail, YouTube and several other online sites.

Changes to the online company's privacy policy "allows Google to store richer personal information profiles and no longer allows consumers to keep various parts of their online experience separate," according to a news release issued by Utah's Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

He says this could make Google users more vulnerable to identity theft and fraud.

Shurtleff is joining 36 other attorneys general to challenge the change to Google privacy policy.

ABC 4 News asked people in Salt Lake City if they are also concerned.

"If you have a secure password on your account it's less likely for someone to break into your account," said Michael Jablonski.

However, Utah's attorney general is concerned.

He wants Google to give its users the chance to opt out of the change.

Shurtleff says consumers deserve to know how the change could affect them.

People with android phones and smart phones are especially vulnerable because they must log into Google to activate most of the functions on their phones.

The change takes place March 1.

Shurtleff and the other attorneys general sent a letter to Google with their concerns.
