COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Thursday a 30-year-old pine tree came down, but the tree will live on as Gateway's Christmas tree.

A massive crane helped crews cut down the 50 foot tree and despite the wind, get it on the back of a semi truck and make its way to Gateway.

The tree was donated by the Woodhead family. They wanted the tree out of their yard, but didn't want to just throw it away.

The Woodhead family offered to the tree to Gateway, and the mall said yes.

Linda Woodhead said, "We are excited to see it at Gateway, but it's bittersweet. We are used to this tree being here, it's been here about 35 years."

The tree will be lit November 17 at the Gateway.
