PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police say an arrest has been made over an alleged baseball bat assault involving a gang member.
Police say that on Saturday, officers investigated a report of an assault at 245 West 400 North.
When officers arrived, police say they found a 57-year-old man bleeding from his mouth and the back of his head.
The man told police he had been assaulted with a baseball bat. Police say the victim’s injuries included cuts on his face, several missing teeth, and a cut on the back of his head, requiring stitches.
Bystanders told police that 22-year-old Richard “Playboy” Gutierrez assaulted the victim with a bat and then fled on his bicycle with his girlfriend.
When they described his distinctive tattoos, officers recognized Gutierrez, and were also aware of his alleged gang involvement and knew where to find him.
When the officers went to the suspect’s house, police say they found his bicycle in the front yard. His family insisted that he was not home, but after some negotiation, police say Gutierrez surrendered himself for questioning.
After additional investigation officers, arrested Gutierrez at his home. He was booked at the Utah County Jail on an aggravated assault charge.
