PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) – U.S. Border Agent Nicholas Ivie killed in the line of duty Tuesday lived in Arizona, but he was also beloved by a community in Provo.
“I feel really sad,” said Bruce Snow, Ivie’s former LDS Bishop.
“I’m in shock,” said Howard Christy, Ivie’s former Boy Scoutmaster.
People in Provo are stunned. Fallen Border Agent Nicholas Ivie grew up in their neighborhood. Tuesday they’re struggling to learn Ivie’s wife and children lost their father.
“I’m broken hearted for her,” said Joy Lundberg, Ivie family friend.
Family friends, the Lundberg’s, told ABC 4 Ivie was quiet, kind, and well loved.
“He was very calm but yet a fun little kid,” said Gary Lundberg, Ivie family friend.
ABC 4 Reporter Brian Carlson spoke to Ivie’s former LDS Bishop. He recalls Ivie loved to serve others.
“Boy was he dependable. If we had to do some things early in the mornings, he was there; if we needed him to help with others, he was there. He never complained,” said Snow.
Many remember a serious accident Ivie had at the neighborhood swimming pool.
“I’m not sure if he dove or lunged or what happened, but he smashed his face into the edge of the pool and it broke his face up pretty badly,” said Christy.
Yet others said he was adventurous and loved nature.
“He was living his dream, he loved serving and being outdoors. He was just an all around good guy,” said Melanie Keller, former family friend.
All said Ivie will be deeply missed.
“I think the world is a little less tonight, than yesterday when he was here,” said Snow.
