Fireworks would be limited under Utah proposal

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah residents could have a shorter window of time to shoot off fireworks if a bill passed by the House takes effect.
Republican Rep. Jim Dunnigan of Taylorsville says the restrictions are prompted by complaints about nonstop fireworks during the month-long period when they're allowed.
House Bill 33 passed the House 60-10 on Friday and is now moving to the Senate for consideration.
The bill would only allow fireworks to be used for a week surrounding the Fourth of July, and a week surrounding the July 24th Pioneer Day, which celebrates the arrival of Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake valley. Fireworks would be prohibited after 11 p.m.
People could also shoot fireworks on New Year's Eve and the eve the Chinese New Year until 1 a.m.
