OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The wife of fallen Ogden City police officer Jared Francom spoke out to ABC 4 on the loss of her husband.

Police say they exchanged gunfire with Matthew David Stewart inside a home at 3268 Jackson Avenue in Ogden while attempting to serve a drug-related search warrant.

Agent Jared Francom, a seven year veteran of the Ogden Police Department, died from a gunshot wound and five other officers were injured.

Erin Francom heard about her husband's death almost immediately after it happened.

She told ABC 4 News her husband "loved his job."

She also said, "He loved his family.  He was a good father."

Erin said Jared never said he was afraid of his job and she was never worried for his safety. She said he would check-in with her regularly while he worked.

The couple met through mutual friends and married seven years ago. They have two girls who are five and three years old. Erin said they are having problems understanding the loss of their father.

Erin said the loss hasn't sunk in yet. She said her husband was loved by everyone and was a great father, police officer, and husband.

"The sad thing is, he died for you and your ability to voice your own opinion" I think you're confusing soldiers with cops... not the same thing. What about Stewart... who was a soldier. Ever think about the way we treat our veterans?

"i hope they continue with the war on drugs because i dont want to b afraid everytime i leave the house" Then you have no understanding of the "war on drugs". How do you know he knew they were cops? And I'm sorry... but studies show Marijuana use is NOT a danger to the community.

i pray that they send this stewart guy down the river!! he was growing marijuana in his house. he is a danger to the community. i dont care if they broke into his house. he knew they were police officers when he fired the first shot!! drug users r a danger to everybody around them. some say his marijuana stash was for medical purposes-is he a doctor also? i hope they continue with the war on drugs because i dont want to b afraid everytime i leave the house that one of them is lurking about waiting to do harm to me or my family. illegal drug users r dangerous.

James you say Stewart did nothing wrong? You know what the hell you're talking about! He was growing pot! He had a bomb! He hid like a damn coward and shot them from his little hiding place. He knew what he was doing and I hope he pays for it. My heart goes out to Officer Francom's family, the injured officers and other officers who responded that night.

Reading your comment Jamestr makes me ill! Ogden, Utah is a safe place to live because of the brave officers who keep the crime at bay on a daily basis!! I live in Johannesburg, South Africa, rated the 2nd most dangerous city on the planet. Here we deal with crazy crimes, murders, rapes, Hijackings, rampant drug dealers. Many of my family and friends have been directly victimised. I would be grateful to have Police Officers knock on each one of our doors every night for raids if it meant keeping my community safe. Be thankful for your brave men and women in blue who stand between you and anarchy, you ungrateful sod!!!!

Wow JamesTr! I am an officer's wife and hearing people like you speak make me sick. Those guys are out there day and night defending people like you, and having people like you say ignorant stuff is just wrong! It's funny how people like you are so quick to trash officers but when you need help they are the ones you call. I hope next time you need them you think of your inconsidered comment. And last, don't ASSUME and judge unless you know ALL the details. My prayers go out to these guys and their families.

How dare you!!! These officers live and die defending our streets. One last night paid the ultimate price. He died defending such concepts as Safety, Freedom, and Honor. Not for riches, not for pride, but for the simple fact that he swore an oath to Serve and Protect. To serve and protect people like you. You call these officers "thugs" and in the very next breath, call the police to come to you and handle one of your problems. The sad thing is, he died for you and your ability to voice your own opinion, even if it is riddled with idiocy. "Thugs" you say? Hero... I say!!

His own father said he was growing weed, jackass. "Stewart's father described his oldest son as having mental problems and said he was 'self-medicating' with marijuana." http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=18748705&title=ogden-police-fallen-officer-was-family
