SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man accused of holding his girlfriend and their 17-month-old son hostage for five days until she posted a plea for help on Facebook is set for a court appearance.

Prosecutors have charged 33-year-old Troy Reed Critchfield with 12 felonies, including aggravated kidnapping, sodomy, rape, aggravated assault, domestic violence, child abuse and animal cruelty.

The case is set for a scheduling conference in West Jordan's 3rd District Court on Tuesday.

He's remains held on $1 million bond.

Police say the woman hid in a closet and used a laptop to post the Christmas Eve message on Facebook, saying she and her son would be "dead by morning" without help.

The post prompted calls to Sandy police, who responded to the home.

Thank heaven that she was able to post the Facebook comment that saved her & her child's lives. What is scary, though, is that in similar situations the phones have been disconnected & now after reading this, so will be any kind of computer/lap top/notebook etc. In this instance, the computer & Facebook did a very good job indeed!
