SOUTH JORDAN, UTAH (ABC 4 News) - South Jordan is about to be in the national spotlight. One of America’s most popular reality shows announces that it’s coming to Daybreak.

ABC 4 News announced Saturday that Extreme Makeover Home Edition will break ground on a new home in Daybreak June 23.

The land for the home was donated by Rio Tinto. Ty McCutcheon says the Utah family receiving the home needed a new home. “In this particular circumstance, they needed a new home to be constructed so we donated the site, and went out and found one of the builders in the community to partner with us.”

It was Holmes Homes that accepted the challenge. Patrick Holmes says his company sees it as a way to give back. They have been hard at work getting everything ready for June 23. “We've designed the home and it's almost complete. We have literally taken a home from a piece of paper where we have made sketches and now we have it engineered and ready to go. We have fit the needs of the family.”
Utah won't be told who that lucky family is until June 23. That day, stars of the hit TV show will knock on the door of the unsuspecting family. What we do know is that they will be surprised, and they could use a hand up.

Holmes says from that moment, the race is on. "We are going to build a home. We get 104 hours to actually build the home before we turn it over to the decorators for a deserving family, for a family that is in need.”

He says they aren’t given any head start. “They won’t let us do anything on the lot until the day they say lets go.” Holmes and McCutcheon say that means they are going to need some help.

"We need to go out into the community over the next few weeks and build upon our collective commitment and volunteers and more folks that want to get involved."

That includes everyday Utahns who want to show support for their community. To finish the Daybreak home on schedule, they will need 24-hundred volunteers, 24 hours a day, for eight days in a row. That's what it will take to hear the words “move that bus” at Daybreak.

On June 16, there will be a huge pep rally at 7 p.m. at the South Jordan Fitness and Aquatic Center, located at 10866 South Redwood Road. There will be live entertainment, a presentation by show producer Milan Vasic, and announcements about what will be needed for the project.

ABC 4 will continue to follow this story and will bring you details about who the lucky family is and how to get involved in coming days.

This is the third time Extreme Makeover Home Edition has come to Utah.

NetScanr.. I agree with bonnie1979.. with one execption... How dare you. it is obvious that you do not understand the concept of a family. I came from a family with 6 children and due to decisions by a very uncaring and bitter father (someone like you) I was raised by by a single mother with 6 (yes I said SIX)kids. You do not have to be Mormon to have 12 kids. it seems that you are very misinformed about why children are brought into this world. I would never wish the SHEER JOY and HAPPINESS my 4 wonderful children bring into me and my wife's life. Because you could never handle it. The unconditional love we have especially for my 10 year old DISABLED daughter is the greatest thing or posession we have as a FAMILY. GO CRAWL BACK UNDER THE CYNICAL ROCK YOU CAME FROM!!!!!!

I hope this isn't some bad-off, well-deserving family with 12 mormon kids! You people need to learn how to pay for your own friggin kids! If you can't afford them, don't have them in the first place!
