SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Embattled UHP Trooper Lisa Steed should know her fate in the next few weeks.

The controversial former Trooper of the Year is being investigated in a special state sanctioned probe.

The investigation is being handled by the Utah County Attorney at the request of the attorney general.

The Utah County Attorney tells ABC 4 his probe is all but over and he'll soon make his recommendation about any possible charges.

The investigation began in late April after a Utah judge said Trooper Steed's testimony in a DUI case may not have been truthful.

Trooper Steed was taken off the streets during the two month investigation.

ABC 4 News has been told several Utah County investigators have been looking into the matter and that it was their intention to interview Trooper Steed.

Previously, ABC 4 News reported that investigators were looking at 76-8-502 of the state code.

In Utah, this section is called false and inconsistent material statements.

But in other parts of the country, it's also known as a perjury statute.

However, several Utah lawyers tell ABC 4 this would be a very difficult charge to prove.

The Utah County Attorney is expected to give his findings to the Salt Lake County District Attorney by Friday.

After that, the Salt Lake DA is expected to review the materials and make the final call about whether Trooper Steed should be charged.

it's amazing that a woman who is more likely to be let off with a warning, would defend troopers. I have talked to ex police who confirm the statements I've made. Go on with your life in delusions. I know that she went to far, but as I said it was encouraged and ran a muck by the trooper. Hopefully this will be the wake up call they all need. Stop being as bad as a criminal.

I do not believe this Trooper being this far out of line can be blamed onto management! I am sorry but I believe "this was her own ego and dishonesty"...don't blame everything onto management and the need for revenue! We have some very great, honest, Troopers in the State of Utah that are doing a very good job out there.

You all realize that this is caused by managements enticing of numbers and quotas. They will tell you that they "don't have quotas". What other reason would this be caused, what benefit would she have for doing this? Come on public, get a clue! They'll do anything they can for REVENUE!

It was obvious some time ago this Trooper was lying about her work. And I am sure her fellow Troopers knew that when she was coming up with all these outragous numbers!!! She should have been fired a long time ago! Honesty and integrity is what an officer is all about! This Trooper needs to go down the road without question!
